Intendant Matthias Schulz and the Orchestra Board of the Staatskapelle Berlin are pleased to award their long-standing former General Music Director Daniel Barenboim a double award at the same time and jointly: the honorary membership of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the title of Honorary Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin.
Daniel Barenboim has enjoyed an extraordinarily fruitful collaboration with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Since he conducted the orchestra and the Staatsopernchor for the first time in public at the turn of the year 1991/92 in the course of a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, followed by Wagner's "Parsifal" in the autumn of 1992, an impressive number of performances have accumulated: 760 music theatre performances (opera and ballet) and over 850 concerts add up to over 1,600 performances. This includes more than 450 performances on tour that have taken Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin to around 80 cities and around 90 opera houses and concert halls worldwide. In addition, there were numerous, multi-award-winning CD and DVD productions, which once again underline the excellent artistic quality that has been achieved over many years of joint work.
