Executive Director and CEO
Named Executive Director and CEO of the Tianjin Juilliard School (TJS) in March 2017, Mr. Brose relocated to Tianjin with his wife and two children in September 2017. As CEO, he has the immediate responsibility of preparing the TJS for its opening in Fall 2019. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing the construction of the TJS’s new landmark campus in the Binhai New Area, hiring an entirely new faculty and administrative staff, strengthening relationships with various stakeholders both in China and the United States, and developing an innovative institutional culture that upholds and extends the educational and artistic values of Juilliard within a country that esteems the classical arts.
Alex began his career in conservatory education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), the west coast's oldest school of music, first as assistant director of admissions, then, at age 26, as director of admission, and finally as associate vice president for advancement. It was in Shanghai that he masterminded the development of a Sister School relationship between the SCM and SFCM, leading to the creation of the annual San Francisco-Shanghai International Chamber Music Festival, which he produced and co-curated for two years before leaving to become the vice president of development at the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) in Colorado.
